  • Don’t forget the republicans gerry mandering districts to keep local and federal control.

I’d also argue about the republicans having actual support. It’s been decades since a republican won the popular vote. They win because of the aforementioned gerry mandering to give them enough of the electoral votes to win. Plus the shit they are pulling locally with their majority where they are passing laws that let them ignore the will of the people even if 90% of people are for something.

Yes, the dems need to get their shit together but we as a country need to be do and be better. We need to do more of the district lines being drawn by an outside group instead of local interests. We need to get rid of the electoral college and much much more.

  • They don’t know what they are talking about. The dev is known to dissappear for random lengths of time, he always comes back and codes like crazy and then needs a break. He was around and supporting the reddit version of sync right up until the end. An update was released for this version of the app on November 29th. I’m guessing this commenter thinks that apps have to be updated consistently to show they are being supported. Aside from the features being worked on, if there aren’t any bugs to squash, why push an update?

  • I’m not sure you understand what waste means here. Of course water is never removed from the environment unless it’s sitting in storage containers. I’m going to assume (I know) that you know what I meant and are just being precocious and pedantic.

As for the smoke. Yes it is dangerous but we deal with that all the time with fertilizer plants going up in smoke, trains derailing, etc. Cover the ev with enough sand or other similar material and that will absorb some of the toxic shit, the rest will just go to the sky and hopefully not kill anything flying overhead. Those of us on the east coast literally (and yes I mean literally) just dealt with this earlier this year with the Canadian forest fires. Smoke was making it’s way as far south as the Carolinas and even this far south people with allergies, asthma, etc were feeling it.

As I said. I’d rather see them let it burn itself out. Unless they are using non-potable water that we don’t want to drink or there happens to be a major water source close enough.

  • Again, false. Getting the equivalent of 5+ acres out of the physical space of 1 and leaving the plants to do their thing is better in every way imaginable. I’m not sure you understand just how much more efficient hydro and aero are. The use of lights instead of the sun let’s you grow year round and shorten the night so plants grow faster and fruit sooner.

Farming the way most industrial farms do things is one of the worst things we have done to the environment in our entire existence. Only outdone by the destruction of rainforests, extracting and burning petroleum from the ground, etc

  • This is so false it’s not even funny. Hydro is way more efficient and aero even more so.

With farming indoors you can control the day/night cycle which not only increases the growth rate it also let’s you manipulate fruiting and flowering.

Hydro and aero use a fraction of the water dirt farming does. More water is being taken up by the plants and none of it is being lost to the environment. On top of that evaporation is controlled so less is lost that way.

As mentioned above the growth rate is increased not only by the light cycle but also by being able to more strictly control and fine tune the amount of fertilizer and you use way less of it. Just like the water, fertilizer isn’t lost to the environment.

Seems like some of you need to learn more about this stuff. There is a growing number of vertical farms popping up all over the world. Hopefully one day soon we will be buying lettuce, carrots, etc that were grown if not in the same building but on the same block.

  • It doesn’t actually take that much juice these days. On top of being able to use solar and wind generated power we also have leds that barely use any electricity to run.

Aside from the initial investment for the setup, the ongoing energy and resources needed for hydro and aero are most definitely going to be less than dirt farming especially when you factor in being able to grow year round. And don’t forget the reduced amount of fertilizer and water usage. The water isn’t lost to the ground with only a small amount of it being used by the plants.

Basically this is like ev versus ice. When you don’t factor in everything, one looks better than the other but with all things considered, ev is way better than ice.

  • Right, but, how many people could have been persuaded to move if twitter didn’t have an outage? That’s my point. Nothing of value was lost, including moving people to mastodon and the like. Along with pushing mastodon on twitter, we should be jumping on every twitter news article and discussion here and on reddit and reminding people that an alternative exists.

It won’t be long before the only ones left on twitter are bots, trolls and idiots.
