I bet there are a lot of MST fans on lemmy. Seems like a similar demographic.
It’s more of a nostalgia thing for the kids who were there. The time capsule predates the web so they didn’t realize how easy it would be to just look up all the things that were in it. Instead they would open it in 50 years and everybody would say, “oh, I remember that thing” and have fond memories of their childhood.
Turkey TV was the shit. And Mad Movies… No wonder I became such an MST3K fan.

Somebody else can pull out the statistics but in my mind Bird was the best three point shooter that ever was.
Remote Control was probably the first program not about music (I remember LL Cool J quipping that they didn’t have questions about the radio) but I think it was still in the spirit of the youth culture and edginess of early MTV. But, yeah, it likely marks the time at which the execs decided they had to “innovate” new programming that strayed from the format that made people watch MTV in the first place.
That said, I don’t think they knew the monster they were unleashing when they created The Real World.

They also aired reruns of Twin Peaks which was pretty rad.
MTV invented the reality format. The first few seasons of The Real World were innovative and novel. Then the execs realized how much cheaper reality was to produce and flooded the market with garbage until it was all we had left.
There are a total of twelve segments on the four fingers of each hand (thumb excluded) making it just as easy to count to 12.
The method of creating the lights inside the O knocked me out. I miss the ingenuity behind practical effects.
