I’ve been trying it out and I like it a lot! Haven’t switched yet though.

People say that? How odd, that seems like a totally different world. I don’t agree with that sentiment! One is a general purpose communications protocol, the other is a community. As with any community, one can pick and choose who they fraternize with.
That’s the point of federation! Choosing who you want in your community.
XMPP still exists - and I use it for chatting with one person. Nobody I know uses it. Techies I know use IRC and, more recently, Matrix. Or discord, disappointingly enough.
And I mention techies because the rest of the world is just happy with WhatsApp/Messenger/Slack et al.
What I’m getting at is that XMPP feels pretty dead in my experience. But who knows, maybe it would be in this same position regardless of Google like you allude to.
Step back, take a breath, and focus your beliefs into more succinct and tactful displays. And lose the passive aggressive judgment rhetoric.
And don’t forget the CLA!
Big pickups are nasty af. Actually useful pickups are sexy.
A little more tact could bring your comments a long way, my friend.
I imagine old.reddit is going to be killed off soon.
I don’t disagree with that statement; however, that doesn’t make it something the general public will embrace. Its mess of extensions are top little too late. That ship has long sailed. And I say this as someone that prefers using XMPP for 1:1 chats
Indeed. Xmpp is lost as a general purpose chat app for everyone. I have many issues with matrix but it’s the best chance we have, particularly with bridges.
Kudos to the edit to be more productive.
That’s unfairly mean and aggressive. Kindly remember which community this is in.
Same here. I wish that we could have more powerful filtering even when browsing all. personally, I don’t want anything to do with memes so finding interesting new lemmy nooks is like wading through a haystack.
Soooo I hadn’t heard this before. I signed up for the second-most popular lemmy instance when I was just poking around without a serious commitment. I know hexbear has been crazy but didn’t know lemmy.ml had a poor rep as well. As a very casual user that just wants to support a more diverse ecosystem which instance would you or others recommend?

Nice one! I have heard it called a fuzzy JPG of the internet.
That’s good to hear, and I really would love for things to get sorted out. Gimp 3.x has many improvements for sure but there’s a long way to go and actually releasing these improvements is necessary…
If gimp can become another blender that would be incredible.
Ha, reminds me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJBEAZFP0aA
Glad it suits your needs!
That is so wild! I love the inventiveness of human interface devices. Too bad it isn’t FOSS, it’d be nice to see it in fdroid.
