You can literally use W11 without an account so easily. But rather than showing people how to do that it’s preferable to use this opportunity to preach about Linux. That’s really sad.
Most people don’t care about the account requirement, considering Windows 11 is running on hundreds of millions of computers. An for those who care, tick an option in rufus.

I just don’t understand why would a regular user using android/ios switch to Linux from Windows just because it requires an account now as well. They still get all of the benefits of Windows, and all that’s needed is to sign in.
Well, Windows is shipped with Xbox apps as well as MS store. A lot of people use those. Office and OneDrive is used a lot too. One account signs you into every one of their products.

Sure. And a regular user will visit Steam’s website and download a .deb. Which will work as most people use Debian/Ubuntu derivatives. The Steam flatpak is not even official.

Not something most people are gonna do. If you need privacy and security on the level where even Steam worries you, Windows can be made private too. It’s not even that hard. You just install a different ISO that allows local accounts and do all the necessary tweaks to harden it.
Yes, that’s my point. You will eventually log into something when using the computer. So while it’s weird that MS made it mandatory to sign into Windows 11, who cares.

Not entirely true. I experienced it with curl. Snap of it exists and it mostly works. But apt install curl will install regular curl. From what I’ve seen on my Ubuntu it installs a snap only if the apt package is set to install a snap. Such as Firefox. It doesn’t exist in Ubuntu’s repo anymore, only as a metapackage.
In my humble opinion, the stock experience on Gnome sucks. No desktop icons, no dock, no minimize maximize buttons, no app indicators. I only use Gnome because of the changes Ubuntu made to it, which can be replicated on other distros with a script.
That’s valid. Ubuntu has shipped with wayland by default since some time ago but wasn’t the first one. They don’t seem to adopt the latest technology as fast. Which I like. Even the new LTS still gives you the option to use X.org in GDM.
Also true. If you don’t like Snaps and aren’t comfortable with more and more packages being replaced by them, Ubuntu isn’t the distro to use. I don’t mind the metapackages installing snaps instead at all honestly. The terminal clearly says it’s installing a snap. And from my experience they work great. I was recently using wsl and needed yt-dlp. I went for the snap right away and it worked great.
In fact the only broken snaps I have encountered so far are OBS and curl (which can’t access root directories, making it useless for the script I needed)
Windows itself was installed during that time. Additional software installation took a few minutes. I installed stuff when I needed it thorough the day.
