Big fan of dash-to-panel on gnome 45 myself. I similarly use a tray icon extension but the name eludes me.
I tried to switch back to the mutter-vrr fork today with no luck. Very much looking forward to VRR in gnome + Wayland.
This is confusing. There are kernel and user space drivers. For example, amdgpu is the kernel driver (inclusive of KMD, DAL & several other functions like powerplay), RadeonSI / RADV / AMDVLK / OGLP (amdgpu-pro) are UMDs for 3D GFX API implementations.
Mantle was not inspired by DX at its time. It was designed as an alternative to OGL and d3d11.
Oh right, my mistake. I do vaguely recall their prior endeavour
I had no idea about Appimage’s stance on Wayland. That’s very unfortunate.
E: Here’s what I’ve come across so far: https://linuxgamingcentral.com/posts/appimage-dev-rejects-wayland-support/
A new start in dGPU is no easy task, but I honestly thought Arc’s relative RTRT and compute perf were quite good?
My main complaint would be their Linux support situation for Arc. I’m hoping it will improve over time.
In terms of technology & product offerings (perf/watt, compute density, TCO) relative to AMD, then Intel have absolutely fallen behind.
Though, this story has taken time to reflect in server market share, and Intel are still the major player.
Is this via a USB 3 or USB 2 port?
I wasn’t aware of this situation, that’s really good to know.
I’m not keen on the snaps being centralised behind a proprietary server. I don’t really get why anyone would put up with that in light of Flatpak.
maybe, though I’ve had trouble with the NP froid repo as well (won’t rule out a skill issue on my part).
I’m fine with using that app mentioned before to grab artefacts directly from the repo releases for the time being.
Honestly it’s not a must for jerboa, though continuity with newpipe can be an issue since Google can change how YT video URLs are handled without warning.
I’ve resorted to using obtanium for apps like jerboa and newpipe :/
They’ve embraced Wayland, pipewire, gnome and what not, but snap is really questionable, particularly in the Linux ecosystem.
I gather it can be somewhat annoying to contend with (I.e. some apps on Ubuntu may only be available as snaps?)
I approached Fedora workstation with little knowledge of Linux, as a former windows and Mac user. My workflows involved graphic, print, UX design, DFP, front end web dev, and some light 3D modelling. Getting acquainted with alternatives to certain apps (namely adobe suite) took some getting used to, but it’s wonderful to no longer feel as if your industrial skill set is beholden to a massive, shitty company.
It was surprisingly easy to get along with. I feel like your experience in will mostly depend on your desktop environment rather than the distro itself, bear in mind that you can use any DE with any distro.
You don’t really need to touch the command line anymore to get going, though I got familiar with it as I found it faster for certain tasks.
KDE plasma is probably more familiar for Windows users. I use the GNOME desktop with some plugins.
As a bonus, Fedora 39 is more performant for me in AAA gaming than windows 10/11.
They may also be referring to this but I’m not certain.
I’m using it now instead of gboard behind a firewall
https://github.com/Helium314/openboard
Also supports gestures for text selection (slide left/right on space bar) and text deletion (per character instead of per-word on gboard)
radv is gradually catching up with amdvlk in terms of rtrt perf. could be worth using amdvlk for raytacing for now, though
Shattered pixel dungeon is very nice
A person’s social life isn’t limited to being online. I’m in your age group. It’s really not that deep to meet people in person.
I could have sworn they wrote a similar post about Wayland,
