New players largely can’t “enter the market” without being bought out unless they have very uncharacteristic in business leaders unwilling to sell to a conglomerate, that’s usually considered victory these days, and literally every company that grows to the point of being and agrees to be publically traded must do every sociopathic thing they can to increase profit or they will be sued.

I don’t think a new group of people playing at this sick game will be any better than the last. If they were, the market ensures they won’t be better for long by design. Growth isn’t the answer. Growth is the problem. Our species needs to shrink or it will continue to suffer until it perishes by its own hands, and that is what we will do. I don’t think there is a solution, but I do know if there is, it won’t be found in economic growth/metastasis.

That’s just saying the cure to a poison is to drink… More of the same poison.

  • Marketing itself is fine and a healthy tool for growth

I reiterate, our species is growing/metastasizing itself and it’s habitat into oblivion.

This is a finite world with finite resources, and 3,000 or so assholes have already claimed most of its finite resources at gunpoint and are at this point swallowing one another’s empires whole in their desperation to keep growing/metastasizing on a conquered board.

We can’t grow/metastasize our way out of our species many crises caused by reckless growth/metastasis to begin with, any more than my country can solve its school shooting problem by handing every teacher and student a loaded glock.

If we cared about survival, if we cared about our children, we don’t btw, we’d be planning to reduce our species size and footprint for the next several generations to a scale this world can sustainability support without hundreds of millions living in squalor.

  • Don’t get any hopes up.

The last time Democrats had a supermajority, their biggest legislative achievement was a health care band-aid dreamed up by the ultra conservative heritage foundation designed to ensure big health insurance keeps profiting off sickness and death, and passed originally by Republican Governor Mitt Romney. And there are still uninsured Americans, and people being economically destroyed despite having supposed health coverage.

Republicans are the greater villains, and I vote for Democrats solely on that basis of least bad harm reduction, but lets not pretend either party is the people’s champion, or at all interested in addressing our disgusting, embarrassing, massive socioeconomic inequity.

We have the villain party®, the feckless wet noodle party(D), and within the feckless wet noodle party, all of about 2-5 people between both chambers of Congress who openly advocate for policy that would actually do good for most of the citizenry. And those 2-5 are despised by both parties proper far more than those parties hate one another.

And tbh I do have to disagree with “people will come to you”, it’s really hard to grow if people don’t know you exist.

I’m against the concept of unnecessary growth/metastasis. I prefer homeostasis/equilibrium.

Unless you’re bringing something profoundly superior to what exists to the table that will have people who hear rumors of it coming to you, there’s no need for a 76th brand of chicken sandwich.

We’re growing/metastasizing our species and a lot of other species into oblivion. It’s a shame our species is belligerently unwilling to consider a different strategy.

  • As are modern sales.

There should be a different name for people at a store that answer questions about a product on request.

No one should be trying to convince anyone to buy anything as a job. What the hell is that? If you make a cool product/service/thing for a reasonable price, people will come to you. If you don’t, stop trying to pressure people into consuming it when they otherwise wouldn’t.

  • Our elected officials and their appointments are all greedy, opportunistic bastards, a reflection of the people they govern. Garbage in, garbage out.

Our people would have to abandon their delusions of living materially superior lifestyles to other Americans if we wanted to have politicians and judges appointed by politicians that even entertain the notion of their offices being public service and not just another all American profit grift as they are treated today.

Our nation and increasingly the world under our capitalist’s pressure live solely by “what’s in it for MEEEEEE?”

In what fucking universe could anyone credibly think that a culture, society, or civilization dominated by the core value of rational self-interest insatiable greed could ever yield selfless public servants?

The concept of private property, not to be confused with personal property, is dooming us all, and we’re all so indoctrinated into the zero sum mindset of “other people have to lose for me to feel like a big winnah” that I don’t see any hope without a painful collapse to remind us all of the human suffering we inflict on swaths of people, like our homeless populations, with complete apathy under this garbage culture and economy.

Clarance Thomas, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, etc are all symptoms of the greed disease that’s killing us. If they all dissappeared tomorrow, there’d be 2 greedy assholes each the next day vying to take their places and take up their grift. Our practiced core values would have to change for that to change.

They won’t change though, so carry on with the ironic outrage about this greedy opportunist doing what we’re all encouraged to do from Kindergarten through Colleges of Economics: doing what he can get away with to get his, and fuck everyone else 🇺🇸

The global economy is the reason I can’t take civilization seriously, or even be on its side.

All I can do is appreciate the morbid gallows humor of it.

Billions of people self-flagellating on the false promises of a few thousand capitalist sociopath families. We were conquered by the modern contemporaries of the traveling snake oil salesmen of old. They’ve got most of the peasants so fucking snowed they don’t even have to run away to the next county after they poison you anymore 🤣

  • Look at the sheer scale and number of massive, malicious mistakes that one of our billionaires makes, while having ZERO impact on their tangible quality of life or lifestyle. None. Their ego score goes down and nothing else changes. The people they laid off suffer, never them.

Remember that when some pro-market capitalism class traitor nitwit inevitably tries to shame struggling people for daring to get a latte, eat Avacado toast, or get an education based on learning and growing as a person rather than solely insatiable greed.

People in the little club basically have to rape dozens of people to finally be permitted to fail, like Harvey Weinstein.

You aren’t poor because of “your bad decisions,” you’re poor because of a relatively small, insatiably greedy, powerful group of people that demand and expect almost all of the capital value your effort produces to go directly to them.

  • China’s problem is a universal problem. They’re “communist” in name only. Their economy has capitalist demands for growth/metastasis, same as ours and most developed economies.

People want to have kids when they can expect those kids to live at minimum the same quality, and preferably better quality, than they themselves did and do. That just isn’t the case anymore as the global economy has run out of massive new sectors for growth/metastasis and has begun eating itself. You can see this in all the entire sectors here merging into monopolies and duopolies. Constant merging isn’t a business strategy, it’s just trying to buy time in a failing economic model.

Capitalism has always been a long-term pyramid scheme to concentrate all the power/wealth/means/capital to a small owner class. The problem is, the con has run out of new places and ways to exploit people as you eventually can’t squeeze more out of a fully exploited stone. No pensions, laughable pay, no future. Just expected to thanklessly generate capital for the owners in larger and larger quantities for the love of what? The nation trying to commoditize your entire life to profit the right people? Why would you bring another poor, desperate child to suffer such a world?

Now, in their desperation, these economies that lead their societies and governments around by the nose are desperately screaming “MORE LIVESTOCK TO EXPLOIT GOD DAMN IT!” because in lieu of not being able to squeeze any harder on existing capital batteries without being correctly told to ‘get fucked,’ that’s all they have.

I firmly believe that is why the federalist society that runs our SCOTUS is trying to get abortion banned, as the most profitable capital batteries are desperate, poor ones. I also believe the intentional decline of our public education system is meant to address the same problem, if they can make the population stoooopid enough not to consider the lives the children of already struggling peasants would have.

This world is finite. Its resources finite. An economic model literally based on infinite continuous growth/metastasis or die is not compatible with the world as it is. In every sense, it is killing us, whether by climate change from without, and loss of actual personal meaning within, at least for the non-winning vast majority. The goal of global economics should have been to establish a sustainable population that could find equilibrium/homeostasis with our shared, COMMUNal environment we all rely on from one breath to the next. Not a lot of room for Super Yachts and private jets in such a world though…
