In Denmark we have large unions that cover whole industries and fields and they work very well for collective bargaining and securing good levels of compensation, vacation and good work environments. I am myself a member of such a union. So please don’t assume that I don’t know how unions work.

Yea definitely don’t disagree with that. I think that is a factor too. But I think it also kind of goes hand in hand. Do you have similar ideas because you organized and kind of aligned your ideas, or did you organize because your ideas are similar and you easily agreed to organize? It’s kind of a chicken and egg thing.

I’ve also often thought that countries like the US are just too big. There’s too many people to take into consideration. A country like Denmark with ~6 million people is much easier to keep track of and the governance and politics is closer to reality.

It is about politics. You need to organise yourselves better into unions. Then, you strike until you get what you deserve.

Why does Denmark and the rest of the Nordic countries have so high quality of living and happy people? Cause the people realized that you need to work together to get what you want. You need to have solidarity with your other workers to push for better compensation and work environments.

Only somewhat related, but is there an easy tool for sending files from one device to another when on the same network? I imagine that scenario shouldn’t need some third party server to connect to but I’ve yet to find a tool like this.

AI generated images often contain model and prompt metadata so in fact it could potentially tell the difference. Not that that should necessarily mean the image should be excluded.

There’s no way for such a system to know it’s AI generated unless there’s some metadata that makes it obvious.

I agree with your comment but just want to point out that AI-generated images actually often do contain metadata, usually describing the model and prompt used.

The fact that these services are run for profit, rather than financed via taxes is unfathomable.

I’ve never thought of platform profits as rents but it actually makes a lot of sense.

I can definitely see the idea in my own work. If I stop working, it’s not like revenue will go down. At least not right away. In that sense, my work is “unproductive”.

I do think stronger regulation is the most viable way forward. I don’t think these monopolies will break themselves.

More users is nice, but the real metric should be the quality of the content and discussions. And for me that’s the real winner with Lemmy.
