  • The issue is what the valuation of the seized assets are. The asset seizure is only to fulfill the monetary debt since he cannot pay the entire amount in cash. If he could pay it in full, there would be no seizure (unless the seizure itself was a separate part of the judgement). The valuation is essentially what someone is willing to pay for it, and in this case, there are only 2 bidders to value it.

The Onion’s bid was not the highest bid, but does have the backing of the family. Jones on the other hand also has a right for the valuation to be as correct as possible to fulfill his debt. This type of situation isn’t particularly unique, and it’s not exactly new.

The Judge could end up deciding that The Onion’s bid goes through due to family backing since the debt is to them and the asset being sold is directly relevant to the judgement, but the valuation of the opposing bid is counted against the debt, which is the only thing Jones is really entitled to here.

  • If you put Gas in it to drive, it’s not an electric.

I agree, but it is a bit more complicated depending on model and drivetrain as well in certain situations.

Some hybrids the electric is an assist that’s always there. Other models operate using electric only at lower speeds, then switch to gas for higher speeds and distance driving. In some cities with severe stop and go traffic congestion, that may effectively be an electric vehicle most of the time.

Either way though, for a comparison like this hybrids should be considered their own category, or be included in ICE if just trying to compare EV sales versus traditional sales.

  • To expand, the only fluid that needs replacing is the washer fluid. There is no oil needed EVs, and most don’t have transmissions, they are direct drive from the motors. The oil in the motor doesn’t need to be changed because it’s a sealed system.

So that leaves brakes, which aren’t used nearly as much due to regenerative braking like you said. And of course tires because that’s just normal wear from use. And the cabin air filter every couple years.

EVs have less than half the parts of an ICE vehicle simply because most of the engine and transmission components just aren’t there. There is simply less there that can break or wear out.

Battery longevity will depend largely on the battery tech and quality the manufacturer uses, and how good their Battery Management System is. Batteries wear mostly due to high use and how you manage charging. Fast charging all the time will wear them faster than charging overnight at home for instance. I keep my Model 3 battery between 60-80% charge and that’s way more than I need for daily driving. When going on a trip I fully charge the night before and there are a ton of chargers on all the long distance trips I’ve made. It reroutes to account for busy chargers automatically and I rarely need to think about it.

  • That ignore system messages. This post will be anecdotal, but I can’t ever get my systems to suddenly restart or reinstall the bloatware apps like some people claim theirs do. It honestly seems like it’s “power users” fucking with things that they don’t actually understand, and then complaining that things aren’t working the way they expect.

We have 5 Windows 11 systems in our household, and 2 family members that are terrible with computers. None of them act the way some randoms on the Internet claim Windows 11 does with updates all the time. And everyone I personally know doesn’t seem to have these issues either. But we’re also not installing random patches or messing with settings that don’t have a natural and intentional UI element.

All of our systems I help with for family and friends update on their own, and prompt when a restart is needed, including a button to delay the restart. If ignored, it prompts after a day or so again and only if ignored or delayed for an extended period will eventually give a countdown to a forced restart. I only noticed the countdown because I was explicitly trying to reproduce what people online claim about it suddenly restarting while using it. And at that point it WILL restart even in use, but that’s after an extended period, multiple days, of ignoring notifications about it.

I also don’t have issues on my systems with those annoying bloatware app links (like Candy Crush) reinstalling, etc. on their own. I turned off the various advertising settings in the settings menus and uninstalled the app links like normal. They’ve never returned.

Since I’ve been completely unable to reproduce these relatively common complaints on multiple systems myself, I can only assume people are adjusting settings or installing various patches from the Internet that mess with things that aren’t intended to be user-facing and that ends up causing issues. Like the infinite number of patches to remove telemetry, etc. that people don’t know what’s actually being changed by it, but install for privacy.

  • It’s part of the reason we’re even having this conversation. Technically, not with this one. This claim isn’t about Trump currently being the President. It’s about whether the fact he was President at the time made a difference, and whether his actions that would otherwise be in clear violation of the law, are protected by that fact.

Effectively he’s asking the Supreme Court to decide whether any illegal actions a President takes while in office cannot be prosecuted after the fact. They could do anything they want while in office, and as long as Congress doesn’t decide to Impeach and remove them from office, it’s all okay. Meaning the President would effectively be above the law.

THAT’S why Trump doesn’t want them to even think about it, as partisan as the court is, they clearly cannot rule that way. A big part of the Republican messaging is being tough on crime and no one is immune, while making sure those with money are. That means keeping up some appearances.

However, this is the chance for him to be removed from the board, and by a Court that is clearly not aligned with is political opponent. He can’t just say it’s the Biden DOJ going after him when it’s a clear Republican majority Supreme Court making the decision. If they rule he’s not immune, he gets the full federal charge dicking he is desperately trying to avoid, and he gets to sit in a jail cell complaining to only his most extreme sycophants while the rest of the country moves on to other politicians. The MAGAts will find someone new to latch onto instead, just like they’ve always done, but the guy that constantly says the quiet part out loud without gaining any sort of advantage, fucking up plans the party has been laying for over 40 years gets removed from play. The party can go back to laying their plans in the shadows without a dumbass talking about them all the time trying to brag about something he knows.
