Ignoring the fact that 1.6m isn’t “over half” of 4.4m, the last paragraph says that they added 9m new users. Am I reading this wrong?

Well said. I’m not going to be a fairweather-ethical-decision-maker. Every time I make a right choice (and I decide what’s right for me) I’m rebelling against the machine of marketing and convenience. In fact, often the more inconvenient it is, the more confident I am in my decision.

I agree with everything you said, but I wouldn’t recommend any book by Johann Hari. Chasing the Scream is a powerful read, but Hari is a chronic plagiarist and liar, and everything he writes should be looked at with heavy skepticism.

I’ve been using Tidal for a couple years and I don’t miss Spotify ever. Same price, higher quality, and they don’t pollute my screen with endless recommendations.

That’s fair. I should have said - without the media giving him the spotlight every day, he would never have been taken seriously as a candidate. That’s what I believe.

It’s absolutely maddening. I’m not especially sharp about politics and the media, but in 2015 I was on Twitter and FB saying, “Stop fucking saying his name. This is how he’s going to get elected.” People can’t not talk about him. Even if the story is about what a stupid, evil loser he is, you’re giving him power by talking about him all the time.

I helped lead an organizing campaign at my nonprofit a few years ago. After 18 exhausting months we had 70% support from staff. Right before the election management forced everyone to attend “information meetings.” It only took 3 meetings for staff to get scared, and we lost the election with only 43% support. It’s probably the most depressing thing I’ve ever experienced.
