This would make me sad. 😢
Judging from its profile, it seems there’s been no activity in the last two weeks, plus I messaged it yesterday trying to get it to join a community, and the documentation says I should receive a reply confirming the new subscription, but alas, radio silence.
I don’t see an issue on GitHub, which makes me think it might be user error, although it also seems highly unlikely that no video links have been posted in the last two weeks.
Does anyone know what’s up?
Has piped ever actually worked for you? I try to watch something on piped every couple weeks on desktop, and regularly on mobile because of the bot, and the videos … just don’t play. It’s just never worked.
Are you able to play the video linked in the comments of this post? It plays for me (in Firefox btw).
Same here, FWIW

Just tried on regular Firefox mobile and it doesn’t respond. Potentially due to ublock?
So it wasn’t just me, though that only happens in my browser, they work fine through Libretube otherwise
Do you have Javascript disabled? Because that will cause videos not to play on Piped.
It’s not that, it seems like a frontend issue though, I just came back to a Piped tab and I was somehow able to play the video, then I reloaded the page and the video player doesn’t respond to clicks anymore
I turned off UBO on the piped domain though.
Seriously. Do some people not read how their adblockers work? 🥹
@Rodeo I’ve been using #piped as my alternative front-end to #youtube for like a year, and it’s working fine. I don’t use the official instance though; however, I did notice that the API was down for a couple of days (at least the subscription feed).
You can choose one from their instance list. Obviously, you are putting your trust to the instance owner.
It doesn’t work for me on Firefox, but it does seem to work on Chromium. Hitting the play button just doesn’t do anything.
Even if it does work, Piped doesn’t seem to be doing resolutions higher than 720p, so I’ll probably stick with clicking the Youtube links even if they fix their broken video player.
Just tested in Firefox Nightly and it appears to be working, it’s just a little slow
it’s always either a hit or a miss. The player UI really needs to show if the instance you’re streaming from is online and working or not. Otherwise, you just keep waiting for the loading to complete, but it never does and you go the the preference to check and the instance isn’t up anymore. You change it back to another instance, go back to the player, check again and change instance again until it works. Then sometime later the same thing happens again.
Newpipe mostly always works and is good enough for me.
Yes, out of the box, always. But I also heard your story a couple of times. Apparently, it can be both!
