Decided to buy Minecraft on a separate, anonymous Outlook account to delete one of my existing old Outlook accounts and stumbled upon this.

Is there a way to play minecraft without supporting microsoft? AFAIK the cracked clients can’t play on servers that doesn’t specifically allow it.

You even mentioned something about an “anonymous” outlook account. Considering you just made a point about how invasive Microsoft is around privacy. That account is far from anonymous. I guess if you decided not to put your initials and birth year in the handle, then maybe that’s what you mean.
Ya normally don’t see people post privacy concerns in a privacy community, with the content of the post being to register and then purchase from the thing you’re alerting others about. Take that however you’d like. I really don’t have anything else to say about it.
If the outlook account is only tied to the minecraft account and Microsoft doesn’t know who made the outlook account, isn’t that pretty safely private? Ofc microsoft can read the emails, but they won’t contain any personal info of OP.

You can’t really torrent it, the game version gets downloaded when you start it, so you’d either have to torrent every version you want to download or download everything at once, which would take way too much space. The thing is, you don’t even need to. You can make an account without buying the game and you can still play it. There’s dedicated launchers for playing the game with an account that doesn’t own it.
Also, Veloren is not similar to Minecraft at all, even if it’s still a very good game. There’s Minetest tho, which is also open source and it has a gamemode as a mod, which tries to be a copy of Minecraft.

Mintest + mineclonia really scratches the Minecraft itch, but I’ve not played a ton of Minecraft since the acquisition.
