I mean sure he’s always been problematic, but he’s so meme-able because he’s always doing goofy shit. But being a Nazi goes a little too far.

The time period this is from he wasn’t a Nazi.

I mean, this was during the period that he was a halfway decent person.

This is two years before his mother died, which is when it spun out of control for him. He never recovered and never had anyone else looking out for him the way she did. Losing his ma broke something in him.

He literally said “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” and he was right to do so in that moment.

“Heckuva job, Brownie” Bush said as people died and Brown was absolutely fucking up the Hurricane Katrina response.

I’m personally entirely fine with memeing him from this period of time, but that’s just me.

Dude was unhinged from the beginning. His early acts could be defensible because we can kind of agree with the words… but it was always about him. He couched it in defense of others, but it was always about “Look at me” for him.

I would say that’s not a reason to take him out of memes, but it’s also not a reason to think of him as ever having been a “good person”.

The problem I have is he does not divorce who he was from who he is now in this way. The memes (and literally any post written about him or that mentions him) inflate his ego and feed his sense of self worth. That’s the problem with meming him.

More recent posts show him in a bad light and obviously hurt his feelings. But posts like this feed his ego and I don’t agree with that.

Yeah, I never really got why everyone jumped at Kanye for that in particular. The response to Katrina was ridiculous and there were plenty of instances where black people were left to fend for themselves, or worse, accused of ‘looting’ when they tried to go out and find food in stores that closed down after days of seeing nothing from the government.

Obviously, everything that happened after is indefensible.

Thanks. I think it’s more funny than problematic, but I don’t want to offend people. Plus I’m not Jewish (I’m black), so I can’t just say “it’s not a big deal, get over it.”

This is fair. But does it matter that there aren’t mere allegations that Ye is a Nazi?

Like. Drake is likely a skeeze, but Ye told us he’s a Nazi flat out.

There are not mere allegations. He is screaming it on every social media he has. He is literally labeling himself as a Nazi and screaming (all caps) racist nonsense every chance he gets online and in interviews. This same guy was trying to buy Parler.

Everyone keeps saying lots of people don’t know, but I don’t even follow West and long ago purged his music from my library and I see it all the time on the internet.

Using popularity as a metric for if somebody is worth validating isn’t remotely useful.

I had to look that word up. I guess you’re right, but I should probably wait a while for the dust to settle. Right now the Kanye thing is still fresh in everyone’s minds.
