I don’t know how it works in the UK, but in some “enlightened” countries the police and courts can literally use your silence against you if you’re accused of a crime. You know, the old “only the guilty have anything to hide” canard. Only in the US is clamming up in all circumstances the best option.

I’m not this dude’s lawyer, either, but he is probably gearing up for some kind of cooperation-with-the-state thing in the hopes of weaseling out of as much of it as possible by blaming it on the Russians.

I sure sleep better at night knowing that they put a little gradient on the playback bar that turns the tip of it slightly magenta, though.

I have had multiple people claim this at me this over the last few days and when challenged thus far nobody has actually be able to articulate how he or for that matter anyone else in his entourage plans to do this, especially in light of Republicans consistently and steadfastly working against any and all minimum wage increases at least since Nixon.

Really. For the vast majority of packaging, what the fuck was wrong with just using cardboard? Even if 99.99999999% of the stuff winds up in a landfill, at least cardboard is theoretically renewable and will biodegrade in less than a thousand lifetimes.

Just sleep well at night knowing that part of the reason your cable/phone/internet bills are so high is because your rates are subsidizing these morons to mail you full color glossy double sided bullshit advertising services at you that you already have.

The secret is not to buy your battery packs from Home Depot. The markup on those “genuine” Ryobi packs is insane, especially given they’re just stuffed full of the same low quality 18650 cells as all the other Chinese garbage anyway.

I have a small fleet of Ryobi cordless stuff by now: A mower, a string trimmer, a blower, and one of those inflator thingies. I just buy the knockoff battery packs online for 1/3-1/4 of the cost and so far I’ve found the knockoffs to have just as much or more capacity and to be more reliable than the Ryobi branded ones. Home Depot wants $189 for a 40v, 4.0Ah pack. Or you can buy a “6.0Ah” knockoff which is probably actually still 4.0 online for $57. The price gulf on the 18v packs is even greater.

I believe this is the same model the Aging Wheels guy on youtube bought, and then the inevitable happened. You could desulfate the batteries, but he stuffed it full of custom lithium cell battery packs instead.

You are correct that using lead-acid in this application is a really bad choice. Even deep cycle batteries will have a crap energy-to-weight ratio. This was the result of the manufacturer (or more likely Home Depot themselves, who specified the product) to rush something, anything out the door to jump on the bandwagon as fast as possible. You see this shit coming out of China all the time, like the little “neighborhood electric vehicles” that in their stock trim leave the factory with like two lead-acid golf cart batteries in the back that give it a range of approximately eleven feet.

Yes, they did. I had to be on the roads a bit at the height of the pandemic due to my job. Far fewer people were driving, but basically all of them were driving like absolute raving lunatics. People were acting under the assumption that cops wouldn’t be out (which was probably true, on average) so therefore laws just didn’t exist anymore.

I also notice that a highly visible subset of drivers have continued to behave this way even after the return to “normal.” They’re usually identifiable by the ownership of a Nissan Altima with haphazardly applied window tint, often spotted squeezing up the shoulder to run a red light into traffic without bothering to look first.

We’re not solving addiction, we’re just building a surveillance state under the guise of protection.

That’s a feature of all of these types of schemes, not a bug.

So I am not a legal eagle, but it sounds to me like no matter what either one of the following is true:

A) Thomas accepted bribes from conservative malefactors to remain in on the court and rule consistently with their politics, which is corrupt.

B) Thomas accepted the same as “gifts,” pretending that they came with no strings attached, and failed to report them on his taxes. Which is illegal.

Yeah, and Ryobi and Milwaukee are made by the same manufacturer anyway.

I believe Microsoft tactfully and retroactively changed it to “disk” once it went commercial with IBM.

It also helped that at the time there were several “disk operating systems” for various platforms, which is why the MS- part on MS-DOS was important.

…As computer monitors. Lots of PC games can be bullied into displaying stereoscopic 3D in one way or other.

I cannot type worth a shit on the touch keyboard on my Z4, despite it being roughly double the size of the touch keyboard on my first touch-only phone. Hell, I could finger type better on my resistive touch, single point only, meant-to-be-used-with-a-stylus WinCE PDA back in the day. I think this has to do with the edges of the screen being too damn close to the physical edge of the device, so there’s no decent way to simultaneously hold it without dropping it and contort your fingers into the quintuple jointed clawlike posture required to hit the lower row and spacebar.

And I bought my original Z Play on the promise of a physical keyboard Moto Mod, which turned out to be vaporware. Yes, I’m still pissed off about that.

Modern bezeless phones may look all swanky and futuristic sitting there on display in the store but they’re a step backwards in actual usability. I would take a slider or even a clamshell with a physical QWERTY keyboard any day.

It’s not necessarily phones. It’s trackers, monitoring devices, laptops, access points, and tablets that all run over 3G bands.

I haven’t even bought a 5G phone yet. My carrier keeps threatening to cut 4G coverage in various areas, and has already axed 3G entirely, rendering large swathes of otherwise perfectly functional devices useless. So far my 4G Moto Z still works. For now.

At this point my conspiracy opinion that the constant “generation” changes are mostly to just force people to buy/lease new phones and devices. Even pokey old 4G has always been more than fast enough for all of my mobile internet activities. Hell, even 3G was.

I have no less than four otherwise flawlessly functional phones in a desk drawer that just won’t work with my cell carrier because they’ve either turned off 3G or discontinued the specific 4G bands those devices need.
